Ms. Andrea Chow
Founder of Hong Kong Cultural Community, Former Policy Officer
Amidst the escalating influence of China in Hong Kong, Andrea left her hometown and her pivotal role in the Administrative Service, which was central to Hong Kong's policy making. In 2021, she founded Hong Kong Cultural Community (HKCC), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to championing Hong Kong culture and facilitating Hongkongers' integration into the UK. Based in Manchester, HKCC has been at the forefront of organising a diverse array of cultural events. Among the notable initiatives is art exhibition "Strange Faces in the Mirror", an experiment involving four local UK artists and four Hong Kong artists to rediscover our identities through the lens of the other. Beyond this, HKCC has spearheaded initiatives such as language exchange programme, African X Hong Kong cultural fun days, community movie screenings, and a monthly column to explore the rich tapestry of Hong Kong culture, in addition to co-organising Hong Kong Film Festival for two years. Andrea also leads Hong Kong Volunteers in Manchester (HKVM), which actively contributes to and connects with our local community through city greening projects, canal cleaning on paddleboards, litter-picking events, elderly home visits and more. Andrea runs HKCC and HKVM with the support of fellow dedicated organisers. She also practises as a psychotherapist under the NHS.
