Dr. Hans Yeung
Former Manager at the HKEAA and Independent Researcher.
Dr. Hans Yeung is a Hong Kong historian and an independent researcher with a notable background in history education. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Hong Kong in 1999, specializing in history. Throughout his career, Dr. Yeung served as a university lecturer and later assumed the role of Manager at the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), specifically in the Assessment Development Department. His career took an unexpected turn in 2020 when he became embroiled in a controversy surrounding a question he had set in a history paper for the Diploma of Secondary Education. Driven by what he later described as "immense political pressure," he resigned from his position at the HKEAA. Subsequently, in August 2021, he relocated to the United Kingdom. Dr. Yeung's experience as a columnist, independent researcher, and producer of Hong Kong history programs has enriched his contributions to the field of history and has placed him in the midst of discussions on academic freedom and education paths in Hong Kong.
